Privacy policy

1. Information we collect

• Account data — name, email, phone number, password (stored securely), and OTP verification details when you register or sign in.
• Business data — listing content, contact details, location, photos, and related materials you submit for publication.
• Activity data — favourites, reviews, enquiries, referrals, and ZamPoints activity tied to your account, plus site usage events for both signed-in and anonymous visitors (for example page views, clicks, search and filter use, listing views and time spent, form interactions excluding passwords, and scroll depth).
• Technical data — IP address, browser and device type (from User-Agent), language, referrer, current URL, screen size, timezone, campaign (UTM) parameters, and cookies or similar technologies used to keep you signed in, recognise returning visitors, and improve the service.

2. How we use your information

• Provide, secure, and improve the directory and your account.
• Publish and manage business listings, enquiries, and reviews you choose to submit.
• Operate ZamPoints, referrals, and related rewards features.
• Understand how visitors use Zamlist (including anonymous browsing), measure engagement, improve the experience, and—after you register or sign in—link prior anonymous activity to your account where relevant.
• Send service messages (OTP codes, account notices, listing updates). Marketing emails are only sent where you opt in and can be stopped anytime.
• Detect fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
• Comply with applicable Zambian and other legal requirements.

3. Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:

• Service providers who help us host, send messages, process payments, or analyse usage — under confidentiality obligations.
• Other users, when you publish a listing, review, or enquiry that includes contact details you choose to share.
• Authorities when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the platform.

4. Cookies and sessions

We use essential cookies and session storage to authenticate you, remember preferences, and keep the site secure. You can control cookies in your browser; disabling them may limit some features.

We also use a first-party analytics cookie (zamlist_vid) and short-lived session storage to understand how visitors use Zamlist—whether or not they are signed in. This may include page views, clicks, search and filter use, listing views and time spent, form interactions (we do not record passwords), scroll depth, plus technical details such as IP address, browser/device type, language, referrer, screen size, timezone, and campaign (UTM) parameters. If you later create an account or sign in, we may link your prior anonymous activity to your user account. Where Google Analytics or Tag Manager is enabled, those services may set their own cookies as described in Google's policies.

5. Retention and security

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above, including legal and accounting requirements. First-party analytics event logs are typically retained for up to 24 months, after which they may be deleted or anonymised, unless a longer period is required for security, fraud prevention, or legal reasons. We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, but no online service is completely risk-free.

6. Your choices

• Update profile details from your account dashboard.
• Control cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential session cookies may prevent sign-in; blocking analytics cookies does not stop core browsing, though we may collect less usage data.
• Request access, correction, or deletion of your personal data (including activity data tied to your account or visitor ID) by contacting us (subject to legal retention needs).
• Close your account; public reviews or listing content may remain where needed for the directory’s integrity.

7. Children

Zamlist is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of Zamlist after an update means you accept the revised policy.
